Well done, David Hodges.

On a January episode of CSI Season 13, viewers will learn that this long-time character is engaged to be married… to supermodel Catrinel Marlon!

Or at least a woman named Elisabetta played by this former Fiat spokeswoman.

According to William Keck of TV Guide Magazine, we'll meet Hodges' love interest on "Double Fault," as the team discovers he met her in Tuscany and Elisabetta discovers that her man's coworkers were naive to her existence.

Laura Vandervoort is set to make like Emily Thorne.

The actress (V, White Collar, an upcoming role on Haven Season 3) has booked a guest-starring role on CSI that would make that ABC character proud:

She'll appear on a January episode as Macy, a young woman recently freed from prison for a crime she didn't commit and intent on taking revenge against the boyfriend who set her up.

Earlier this week, CSI also announced a fiancee for David Hodges: model Catrinel Marlon has landed this unexpected role.

CSI Review: Six Degrees of Surprises

Let’s all warmly welcome the Mobile Crime Unit to CSI. It served as the backbone for all the twist and turns that "Strip Maul" took along the way this week.

Does anyone else wonder if CBS is testing an idea for a spin-off from with the MCU? Between Nick’s in-depth discussions with Crawford and Greg’s teaming up with Weiss, it certainly felt that way.

Brass' Reality

If they are, count me in as a fan. The twists, turns and surprises we enjoyed this episode made it for one of the best I've seen. Take Joslyn/Josh, for example. If you needed a reason not to be a drug mule, he provided it. But then he turned out to be Bobby Reed's cousin, who was actually at the center of the case and the person the hit man was actually trying to kill. Never saw that coming.

Speaking of Bobby, it was a refreshing change that a bad guy not only turned himself in, but came clean with the cops knowing he was going to jail. It gets really old when every suspect runs and the cops have to chase them down every time. Yes, I'm looking at you Hawaii Five-0

What put this episode over the top was Brass trying to help Chastity/Heather because he saw someone like his daughter who needed some help. Followed by Ecklie and Morgan at the end of the episode. Ecklie had my favorite CSI quote this week with:

I'm confused about a lot of things right now. But you and me, our relationship that is the only thing in my life that makes sense. | permalink

I’ve said it before, but it's worth a rehash: I really enjoy Ecklie and Morgan’s renewed relationship. It has softened Ecklie. He feels like a more rounded character than he did early on. It also makes Morgan feel like she’s been with the team much longer than she has. Besides, in a show about murder and death, it’s good to get some “touchy feely” moments.

Overall, an outstanding episode; there was nothing not to like about it. I’m giving it a very rare 5 loving fathers out of 5 for figuring out how to still surprise fans after 13 years, throwing in some heart along the way.

CSI Review: Shaking The Family Tree

Santa visited CSI fans early this year, as we received the unexpected gift of a Sara-centered episode on "Risky Business Class." It was based on a former colleague of Sara's, Doug Wilson from the NTSB, asking for the help from the crime lab.

First, I’m thrilled that we got an episode that focused on this team member, specifically her marriage to Grissom. Many fans have wondered why there isn't more mention of Grissom or why Sara doesn't seem to acknowledge that she’s even hitched.

Sara's Old Flame

I do have a couple of questions, though:

  1. How long ago was she in San Francisco to work with Wilson? Their conversation gave clear indication it had been several years, but if it was before she came to Las Vegas that would be more than 13 years ago. Talk about carrying a flame for someone for a long time.
  2. The preview teased "An old lover of Sara's." Did anyone get the feeling they had been lovers?!? I sensed an attraction, but not that sort of vibe. Then again, Jorja Fox can be a bit tough to read, so maybe the crooked smile meant lover.

Either way, I hope we get more of Sara and her relationship; I would like to see it go somewhere. It just seems like a boat anchor around her neck; she can’t date because she married to a ghost, she can’t hold bidirectional conversations because William Petersen isn't really on the show, we only get one side if she talks to him at all.

It’s just frustrating watching the character float in limbo!

On the other hand, you can tell it's December as Donna Hoppe (Pamela Reed) made a return visit approximately one year after her last visit.

I’m not sure if they are trying Reed out to see if she would work as a series regular or frequent visitor, but she was great. She fills in a gap in research and knowledge that helped when she was here before and she certainly helped this week.

Overall I’m giving the episode 4.2 family trees for a fun return of Reed and a much needed revisit to the Grissom family line. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays and we will see you all back here with the return of CSI in January.

David Cassidy to Play Poker on CSI

Former Partridge Family star David Cassidy is on his way to Las Vegas.

The actor, who also appeared on Celebrity Apprentice in 2011, will come on board the February 27 episode of CSIas Mr. Coe, a long-time poker player trying desperately, according to TV Guide Magazine, to hold on to his youth.

Look for the character to have undergone a great amount of plastic surgery, which actually helps him clean up at the card table. Botox can assist immensely with one's poker face!

Cassidy's has not guest-starred on a primetime series since a 2005 episode of Less Than Perfect.

CSI Exclusive: David Berman Teases a Deadly High School Reunion

$

CSI doesn’t shake things up too often, which could be why it’s currently in its 13th successful season.

But diehard fans will notice a difference right from the start of tonight’s episode, “Dead of the Class.”

For a change, Assistant Coroner Dr. David Phillips (played by David Berman) steps out of the lab and is front and center when a murder takes place at the high school reunion he reluctantly attends.

There are also other unexpected moments, as Berman teases in the following Q&A, including meeting his character's significant other for the first time. Read on for key excerpts...

Phillips and Hodges

TV Fanatic: There are some fun moments right from the start of this episode but how did the story come about? It’s definitely something a lot of us can relate to.
David Berman: I actually went to my high school reunion last spring and I really didn't want to go, and an old friend convinced me to go, didn't give me an out. And the next day, I actually ran into Tom Mularz, who's a writer on staff, and I just said ‘wouldn’t a high school reunion be a great place to kill somebody?’

And I thought, selfishly because I'm the coroner, unless I am involved in the killing or there's a dead body, there's no reason for me to be involved. So I thought ‘wouldn’t it be wonderful to put a crime in a setting where my knowledge of the geographical location of the event as well as the suspects and the victim…I could actually help the case. And Tom thought so as well and then crafted this really great story.

TVF: The person who is murdered. Is it someone likeable or not so likeable?
DB: We all knew a Becca. Becca is the girl in high school who drove us to therapy, who pulled pranks on you, and she is just this detestable, perfect beauty queen who ruled the school, and who ruined everybody's life. I think what's so wonderful about this episode and why I was so pleased with the script is that maybe you don't have a lot of sympathy for the victim, but you have a tremendous amount of sympathy for all the suspects. And I think that's why this episode is so good is that you actually care and that’s why CSI is so good. You actually care about the people who may have committed these crimes and you get invested in their lives.

TVF: I love the scene where you actually get to talk to Becca after she's been killed, which is really fun and more than a bit gory!
DB: Yeah. It's very Six Feet Under.

TVF: How was that to shoot? I mean, I don't know if it was CGI or…?
DB: It was phenomenal. That's a living girl. She's in there. She's buried underneath the autopsy table. Underneath the slab, there's a compartment for her body. You could not tell looking at it. I mean, I was a foot away and it looked so real, it actually made me want to gag a little bit. Meanwhile, she was split open and everyone’s telling jokes and giving me a thumbs up. I mean, I have the creepiest photos from that day.

TVF: You also have a really nice scene toward the end with Elisabeth Shue. It was nice to have that more familial moment between the two of you.
DB: Yeah, and you don't get them that often and that's nice. So when you get those, it's very rewarding. You don't want to do it too much but when you do it, you feel like you've earned it. And to actually sit on a park bench with Elisabeth Shue, who I've been watching my whole life and who I adore and respect and have for a long time, and actually have a conversation, and it's not about lividity, it's not about ligature marks, which are all great things to talk about, but it's nice to actually have a conversation with another person about life.

TVF: And we get a window into another part of ‘Super Dave’s’ life, right?
DB: Yeah. On the show my character has had the same girlfriend since season three or four and even that came out accidentally. I think it was season three or season four and George Eads, after I said something particularly nerdy, which my character is want to do, and he said, "Super Dave, you gotta get a girlfriend." And I just intuitively said, "Thanks, Nick. I'm engaged." And they kept it in. The fact that we've never met her and it's been, what now, 10 years ago. She's kind of become like the Vera of CSI. Remember Vera from Cheers? [Vera was never seen in the 11 years Cheers was on the air.]

TVF: Any future storylines coming up that you're excited for people to see, anything besides this episode just to keep on board?
DB: Yeah. I think there's a really great episode, 21 [entitled “Fearless,’ tentatively airing in May] that features Wally Langham (Hodges) and Jon Wellner (Andrews), which is really, really great. I don't want to give too much away but Elisabetta, Hodges' wife comes back and I love watching the Henry Andrews’ character and so I’m excited to see him as the focus  of 21.

TVF: Do you think the family element on the show is what's kept this show going for so long?
DB: There are five of us who have been there since the first season. I think I came in episode two or three. Robert David Hall came in episode four or five. So yeah…I haven’t looked at the history of television, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a show that's been on the air for 13 years that has kept at least half of its original lineup for almost the whole time barring Jorja's exit for about a year and a half, then she came back.

I think that Ted Danson is really responsible for keeping that show as fresh as anything. He's just so spectacular. Not only does he bring the gravitas of this seasoned television veteran but his ethos is just light. Even if he's not being funny, he's just funny as a person, and that comes through. I think it helps lighten up these episodes, which is really nice.

Sorry, criminals of Las Vegas. You won't be getting away with very much for the next year or so.

CBS announced today that it has renewed CSI for a 14th season, while also confirming that Ted Danson has signed a new contract to remain as lead investigator.

He will be joined in 2013-2014 by Elisabeth Shue and original cast members George Eads, Jorja Fox, Eric Szmanda, Paul Guilfoyle and Robert David Hall.

Arriving At a Grave Site

“The writers and producers have done an amazing job evolving CSI, reinventing the show around an incredible leading man in Ted Danson, the acclaimed Elisabeth Shue and our beloved and talented core of original cast members,” CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said in a statement.

For the season to date, CSI remains number-one in overall viewers for Wednesday nights at 10 p.m.

It airs an episode tonight based around a deadly high school reunion and you can read all about it via this exclusive interview with David Berman.

CSI Exclusive: Elisabeth Harnois on Season 13 Finale, Morgan Undercover and a Possible Romance with Sanders

How will CSI shake things up to conclude its 13th season? By putting one of their own in jeopardy, that’s how.

On tonight’s finale Elisabeth Harnois’s Morgan Brody will go undercover (as a hooker, no less) and - SPOILER ALERT! - she may find herself in harm’s way.

In this exclusive Q&A, actress tells me how the episode is laid out, who she’d love to have more scenes with next season and a lot more...

-------------------------------------------

TV Fanatic: The episode is called “Skin in the Game.” I’m not sure I even want to know what that means!
Elisabeth Harnois: The case is basically that hookers are turning up dead and the one thing they have in common is this reformatory church sort of thing where the guy who runs it is this Pastor. He claims he’s reforming these women and then getting them back to a good life and, coincidentally, they’re dropping like flies and the Pastor claims he has nothing to do with it and he claims or he thinks that it may be one of his friends. So it comes down to me having to go undercover as a hooker and that’s where the title comes from.

But it’s a big decision for my character to do this because it’s a very dangerous undercover job and there is a very personal reason as to why she feels very strongly that she shouldn’t. Of course it stirs up a bunch of drama between her and her father because now that he’s taken the new job, these are the kind of decisions he’s going to be faced with, with me working as CSI at the same department as he is…I think they’ve written a very believable episode.

TVF: Some procedurals don’t always give us a lot of character development but the role of Morgan came with a lot of it.
EH: They gave me kind of an amazing back story. They had me really get connected to one of their main characters and I came with a bucket full of drama. They have a lot of places to go with Morgan and I feel they’ve been very generous with me and I thank them every day. They know how much I appreciate it.

Morgan as a Hooker

TVF: Now since you’re going undercover as a hooker, do we get to see you in some interesting outfits in the episode?
EH: You will see me wearing playmate like clothing, yeah. You’ll see a lot more of my skin….Morgan is a character come to this world of CSI was very much a newbie but very much an expert having been at CSI for years in Los Angeles and she also comes with a lot of sort of intentions with her father that she’s going to rekindle the relationship.

First she’s going to be a pain the ass and make him feel bad for being a non-existent father and then once they’re past that point then this bond forms and this love forms and now it’s the end of the season, we’re taken to another place that threatens her relationship and it’s partially due to the fact that Morgan feels so strongly about father/daughter relationships now that she has one but also that she feels that she got to have something that she wants these other women to have.

TVF: Would you like to see more of a romance part of the show or do you think it’s better left as like maybe teasing and little elements here and there?
EH: I think they’ve already made some bold choices by giving so much character driven material to people like me and my character and Lisa Shue’s character have all gotten incredible personal storylines as well as Jorja [Fox] and Eric [Szmanda], everybody’s been giving it much more of their own life to the show in this season.
So I think that, that opens the door.

Just that change in the writing style opened the door for more of that stuff to happen, more flirting, more potential romance that I think that we have to really find the right balance of respecting why the show has been so successful and respecting why people have loved it for so long and not because it’s a 90210. It’s not because it’s a night time soap opera…we give just enough to keep people wondering and I think that will come a point when people do get answers that they either want or they don’t want.

TVF: Assuming you survive the cliff hanger, who would you like to see Morgan kind of interact with a lot more maybe she hasn’t?
EH: I think apparently I would love to work with some of the women more. I understand why but there’s only three of us so there’s a lot more men on the show. A lot of our chemistry in our personal lives in terms of us becoming friends and just having things in common I think has sort of helped the writers find the directions to go concerning a storyline…it doesn’t hurt that if Morgan is going to have a crush on Eric’s character that they actually are good friends and we really like each other. You know what I mean?

But I think that the people that I really would want to work with more than I have thus far are Lisa Shue and Jorja. I had a little bit with Jorja and I had a little bit with Lisa but I would love for us girls to have to band together for a really cool power girl episode. Not a Charlie’s Angels kind of thing but an episode that requires that it has to be them that come to the forefront. We’ve all said that we would love to have that kind of an episode for the three of us because we all really like each other and we’re all very opinionated strong women.

Marg Helgenberger Books Return to CSI

Marg Helgenberger has booked her return to CSI.

The veteran actress, who will help anchor Intelligence on CBS in early 2014, will reprise her role of Catherine Willows on the drama's upcoming 300th episode.

The episode will air on Wednesday, October 23 and center on a cold case that has remained unsolved for 14 years, as the team investigates the killing of a casino mogul who was a suspect in a similar crime back in 2000.

Catherine at Work

Helgenberger left the smash drama in 2012 and was essentially replaced in the cast by Elisabeth Shue.

CSI Season 14 kicks off on September 25.

George Eads to Miss Multiple CSI Episodes After Clash with Writer

George Eads has been placed on a leave of absence by CSI producers.

The actor, who has portrayed Nick Stokes since the series premiere in 2000, engaged in a heated exchange with a writer and will appear in the opening three installments of Season 14… but his return after that is unknown at this time.

Said a red for CBS TV to The Hollywood Reporter: "George Eads will not appear in several episodes during the first half of the season. We look forward to him returning to CSI very soon."

George Eads as Nick

It's unclear just what prompted the clash, but insiders say Eads was unhappy over the direction of character; the writer with whom he argued was eight months pregnant and Eads threatened to quit in a subsequent meeting with show runner Carol Mendelsohn.

Look for Nick's absence to be addressed in Episode 4 (and for him to be sent for training at Quantico) and for the actor to miss the drama's 300th installment, which will feature the return of Marg Helgenberger.

Jason Priestley to Guest Star on Special CSI Episode

Two of the world's most famous sideburns are headed to CSI.

Entertainment Weekly confirms that Jason Priestley has booked a role on the drama's 300th episode, which will air October 23 and also feature the return of former lead Marg Helgenberger as Catherine Willows.

Look for the beloved Beverly Hills, 90210 star to come on board as a casino mogul who is looking to regain his empire after a scandal turned him into a recluse.

J. Priestley

But while Priestley and Helgenberger are in, George Eads is out.

The long-time cast member has been suspended from the series after clashing with a writer on set and will not be around for Episode 300.

Former Vampire Diaries Star to Recur on CSI

Matt Davis is going from the classroom to the laboratory.

The former Vampire Diaries star has booked a recurring role on CSI Season 14, TV Line confirms, as he'll debut on the CBS drama in October as the son of a decorated fireman.

Look for Davis' character to come across as a loner, but to actually possess the "soul of a poet and mind of a mathematician," sources say. He'll also be especially athletic and competitive.

Evil Alaric

The actor will appear on multiple episodes of the long-running series, which returns on Wednesday, September 25.

His addition should help offset the loss of George Eads, who has been suspended from the show indefinitely after clashing with a writer on set.

Sherry Stringfield is trading in her white coat for an investigator's badge.

The long-time ER star will appear on an upcoming episode of CSI, according to TV Line, coming on board the drama as a "blue-collar swing shift CSI" named Dawn who joins Elisabeth Harnois' Morgan on a serial rape case.

Look for the character to also have a son at home with an addiction problem.

Sherry Stringfield on ER

Stringfield has mostly avoided the small screen since scrubbing out of ER in 2009, appearing later that same year on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Her CSI installment will air some time this fall.

And this might be very bad news for a few CSI characters.

The actor (Ringer, Life Unexpected, Made in Jersey) will guest star on the long-running drama's November 27th episode as Darryl, a blue-collar mechanic who comes across as first as likable and charming...

... but when he comes to the assistance of Jorja Fox's Sara, Elisabeth Shue's Finlay and Elisabeth Harnois' Morgan, a much darker and dangerous side of the character comes out.

Jordin Sparks Speaks on Dark, Frightening CSI Role

$

Things are about to get dark for Jordin Sparks.

While we normally see the performer well groomed and polished, the American Idol champion is anything but in her guest appearance on tonight’s chilling episode of CSI.

The story concerns multiple murders that all happen in the same motel room. Is there a serial killer using the room or is there something more ghostly in this particular space? Our CSI team is tasked to find out and one of them may actually fall under its spell.

Sparks’ part in the episode? Without spoiling too much, she's involved in the happenings in the motel room and, in short, we’ll see Sparks in ways we never have before.

I jumped on the phone with the self-proclaimed CSI fan to talk about how it felt to shoot some very dark and intense scenes, as well as whether she acted like a fan girl with any of her favorite actors from the long-running CBS series.

-------------------------------------

TV Fanatic: This is very different than what we’re used to seeing so how did you approach the role, especially since I’m guessing this is not a situation you’ve been in in your life?

Jordin Sparks: Exactly. Exactly. First I have to say, I’m such a huge fan of the show. Before any of this happened I have a boxed set of the seasons up to that point when I was fourteen years old and after I did my homework I was watching CSI. When I was cleaning my room I had CSI on. If I was up on a road trip I was watching it so to be on the show was definitely a dream come true for me. My fourteen-year-old self was just jumping up and down the entire time and it was definitely a check off my bucket list.

It definitely isn’t a situation that I have been involved in ever in my life so I didn’t quite know how to approach it. It was like, ‘Okay. They need somebody who’s scared.’ I’ve been scared and I was like, ‘Okay. I just need to amplify that times a hundred probably,’ because it’s probably way more scarier than what I’ve every felt.

The director [of the episode, Louis Milito], he was so great and if there was something that he needed more of he would call up and be, ‘Okay. Well, try to amp that up a little bit more,’ or he would say, ‘Okay, this is kind of what I’m thinking she’s thinking in her head,’ and so I would try and pull from there. So it was really a collaborative effort to try and get the craziness out and so I’d scream and look crazy and be so intense. It was different for me but I was so up for the challenge. I was so ready for it.

TVF: Since you were a fan of the show, did you approach the show or did your people let them know that you were interested? Or did they just come to you and it was happenstance?

JS: Actually, I was auditioning for something else and the room that I was in had a whole bunch of binders with the scripts in it from CSI and I flipped out just seeing that on the wall. That’s how big of a fan I am because it was just paper and I was freaking out that it was there. And one of the women that was in the room with me was like, ‘Hey. I work on that also,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. Put in a good word for me,’ not thinking anything would happen.

Then, a couple weeks later my agency was like, ‘Hey, we secured an audition for you for CSI,’ and I completely screamed and jumped on the bed and went crazy. So that’s how it came about. I went in and I auditioned and then they called me back and said that I got it and I screamed and jumped on the bed some more.

TVF: Since you are obviously a big fan, who of the cast did you kind of fan girl out over, even if it was just inside?

JS: Oh, man. I totally had a crush on George when I was younger so when I was sitting face to face with him I was like, ‘Whoa. This is not happening right now.’ But it was funny because we were sitting at the interrogation table and, I don’t remember, they were changing the light or something, and all of a sudden I can’t remember who did it first but George and I started quoting Napoleon Dynamite and it was one of the best moments of my life.

TVF: Do you creatively have to go to a different space when you’re doing singing and acting or does it all come from the same kind of creative center?

JS: I guess I feel like for me it’s the same, although my comfort level when I do music is way higher than it is when I’m acting because I’m so green. But at the same time, I definitely think that it does come from the same place. When I’m doing my music and I’m singing and it’s an emotional song I emote that through what I’m singing and through the notes that I’m singing.

When you have to do something emotional you kind of have to pull through the same space, although with acting it’s somebody else’s world. You know what I’m saying? Like if it was somebody else’s issue or problem. When I’m doing my music if I cry if I’m singing it’s because it’s personal because it happened to me. When it’s acting I’m in somebody else’s head and then I have to try and pull from an experience that I’ve had so it is the same as in with music sometimes.

TVF: I know we’re getting new music from you. We’ve had a single released I think in August and there’s an album coming. How does it feel like since there have been some delays in getting the music out, right?

JS: Oh man. It’s like one step forward, two steps back but at the same time I know the direction that I want to go. I just want to do really good music whether or not you can hear it this year I have no idea. But I’ve got some good stuff. I’ve worked with some great people. With the doors opening up on the acting side for me, I can’t not walk through them. I have to go through those doors so it’s been really nice at least with not being able to put the music out right now. At least I get to open myself up to a whole different world and have fun doing this as work and have my fans still be able to see me and be able to go to something and be able to see me at the same time.

But with music, music will always be my number one love where acting is definitely kind of nudging itself ahead currently right now but music will always be my lifeline and my number one so we’ve just got to get all this timing right with everything and all the production and the promo and everything.

CSI airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. Sparks is also in the movie, Dear Secret Santa, airing on Lifetime on November 30 at 8 p.m.

CSI: Miami and CSI: NY are no longer on the air, of course, though both enjoyed solid runs on CBS. The mothership, meanwhile, is still going strong on season 14.
